Maxillofacial Center Antigua Guatemala
The Maxillofacial Center (Centro Maxilofacial, CMF, for its acronym in Spanish) is a comprehensive dental center engaged in providing dental products and services to the population of the city of La Antigua Guatemala in the Department of Sacatepéquez since 2008, and to patients throughout the Republic of Guatemala.
The CMF has a dental clinic with three modern offices, a Diagnostic Imaging Center with a Dental Computed Tomography Scan, a Dental Laboratory with CAD/CAM technology, a Training Center, head office of the Instituto Multidisciplinario de Especialidades Dentales (Multidisciplinary Institute of Dental Specialties) (Guadalajara, México) and in the near future, a Dental Depot with exclusive brands for Digital and 3D Dentistry.
Dental treatments go, from a routine checkup and follow-up treatments, through dental cleanings, full or partial tooth reconstructions using computer-designed and manufactured ceramic blocks, to the replacement of one or all teeth with artificial roots made of titanium or zirconia.
Diagnostic imaging by a Dental Tomography Scan replace conventional 2D radiographies, that being flat-panel images, suffer distortion. 3D Computed Tomography imaging allow the identification of the precise form of all the teeth anatomy and related structures (gums and bone) within the mouth and jaws, evidencing any pathology or injury that cannot be seen with the naked eye or with X-rays.
The dental laboratory works accurately with high 3D dental technology to design (CAD) and manufacture (CAM) with the aid of the computer, from a dental fragment or crown, to a full reconstruction of the mouth and smile of our customers.
The CAD/CAM system replaces the analog processes of the dental laboratory, improving precision and reducing the work time and adjustments or repetitions of dental prostheses.
The Training Center is a hall, equipped with workstations that allow to delivery, from a lecture, to demonstrations and guided practices to students and professionals in any field of modern dentistry.
Continuing education is of great significance for Health Care Professionals all over the world, so therefore and together with IMED, we offer different curricula in Traditional and Digital Dentistry.
Dental materials, medical devices, and equipment necessary for modern dental practice are produced by factories, specialized in the Medical-Surgical-Dental sector.
The CMF uses the best brands of dental equipment, devices, and materials manufactured in Europe and the United States of America with CE mark and FDA approval certifications.
Tomography and CAD/CAM equipment are manufactured in Italy with the same brand quality and guarantee such as the automotive, food, or fashion industries.
The director of the CMF is Dr. Luis Ramírez, Dental Surgeon, with license number 1698. He graduated from the School of Dentistry of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) in 1997. He obtained a Postgraduate Degree and major in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (National Institute of Social Security, IGGS, for its acronym in Spanish) in 2001 and major in Maxillary Orthopedics and Orthodontics in the Asociación Mexicana de Ortopedia Maxilar (Mexican Association of Maxillary Orthopedics, AMOM, for its acronym in Spanish) in 2007. He has also done continuing education studies with a Degree in Implantology and Implant Rehabilitation at the Instituto de Bio Tecnología (Biotechnology Institute, BTI) in Spain, in 2004. He did a Fellowship in Orthognathic Surgery at the University Hospital of Zürich, Switzerland, in 2009.
The center provides dental care and performs dental treatments to local and foreign residents in Antigua Guatemala, besides being a Specialized Dental Tourism Center for patients from all over the world.
The term “medical tourism” refers to when patients travel abroad for the purpose of obtaining non-emergency medical care. Dental tourism is a segment of health tourism that is becoming more popular as a choice for patient care due to the high costs and low coverage of medical/dental insurance in the country of origin.
According to the American Dental Association, dental tourism is caused by the higher cost of dental care in the United States and Canada, by less access to coverage of dental plans that does not include Dental Implants or Aesthetics, the global economic growth, and ease of traveling abroad.
A report on the globalization of health care presented by the American Dental Association, noted that for many years, patients have sought medical care outside their country of origin. The report states: “Given that the quality of health care had improved in many parts of the world, some patients in the United States now travel abroad to obtain quality health care at a lower cost. This medical tourism in which Americans seek “medical care of the developed world at prices of the developing world”, involves a growing number of people. ” Increasingly, Travel Agencies are offering packages known as “dental vacations” that combine dental care with holiday trips to another country.
